As you said - it depends on how said plans are executed - but after reviewing the current Government run healthcare options here - I'm still not for any of them. We also pay in taxes to support the existing systems - which are broken in my opinion. Ultimately I have a fundamental concern with the Government deciding which healthcare services I need or don't need and when I do or don't need them. We too have insurance through my husband's job, and although we've paid more in premiums than you have we don't have huge hospital bills or expenses hanging over our heads either

In Ontario (Canada), we have high income tax and a province run health care system, however I wouldn't trade it for the world and wouldn't move down the States because you don't have one. Not all socialist ideas are bad, it depends on how they are executed, and the sacrifices and benefits. Since I became pregnant to now (my daughter is 2), we have paid $50 in out-of-pocket health care costs aside from any medications which my company covered. So the province paid for all my doctor visits, all tests and ultrasounds, the birth and hospital stay, all baby wellness visits, 6 extra trips to the doctor, 2 specialists, 3 x-rays and a cast (the $50 was because we go a fiberglass one). We all complain about how high are income taxes are but at the end of the day, I am really very grateful we don't have hospital bills hanging over our heads.
