Get Well Soon

Another Thursday has arrived – which means another fun project featuring Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff!  I made a get well card today for the daughter of a family friend – though my own little one could probably use it too – she’s been feeling a little under the weather the last couple days – yesterday she spent most of her day in my lap – love the cuddling, but definitely limits my activities!  Anyhow, I tried a couple of new to me ideas with this one!  I started with an image from Lindsay’s Funky Forest Digital Stamp Set: LSS_FunkyForest_Preview My initial plan had been to create and color the image in Photoshop and then print it on acetate and layer over a patterned card base – but after initial printing I found that the transparency film I was using bled terribly – so plan number 1 was scrapped – at least in its initial form.  I returned to Photoshop and created a background for my stamps – a mini-scene if you will and then the card took on a life of its own! LSS_PrettyPrimative_CardFor all of my digital coloring, I used Jodiann’s new Chalkies Style – Vicki’s Beach. The clouds were added to the blue background using a Photoshop brush in white.  The chalk styles have a bit of shadow built in, so with only an additional drop shadow on my outline layer, my lighting and blending effects were complete.  I printed the scene on Georgia Pacific CS and viola a card front is born. lightbulb I really liked Lindsay’s project where she featured fringing, so I had to check out her references and try it myself.  I didn’t have any crepe paper, so I cut 3 1.25” strips of green mulberry and stitched them together with my Sew Crafty mini-machine (another first – I’d never taken it out of the box – thanks Nana!).  I adhered the strips to my card, trimmed the excess and then “fringed” them.  Not too bad – and in true Lindsay style, I experimented with products I had on hand!  Note to self – use color coordinated thread!!! I hadn’t completely given up on the acetate idea, so I decided to make my card base from a scrap piece.  I trimmed the front panel so I could tuck it behind my “grass” – this allowed the grass to remain dimensional as well as hiding my strip of tape that’s holding the acetate in place.  The blue gems are from MS – I couldn’t resist a little bling. smile_regularLSS_PrettyPrimative_Sentiment For the inside, I used my Labels 4 nestabilites to cut the shapes from DCWV glitter CS and Georgia Pacific white CS – then stamped the sentiment (SU-retired) in Brilliance Pearlescent Sky Blue.  Using the nestie as a guide, I added the stitching with my Baby Blue Spica pen. The layered panel was then adhered to the inside of my acetate sheet.  I hope Cati likes it!

If you didn’t come from Lindsay’s blog, be sure to stop there – she is known to have a goodie or two, fabulous inspiration, and the links to the rest of the DT projects.  And don’t forget – next week is our BIG Anniversary/Birthday party!  The fun starts Tuesday with hops, challenges, and FREEBIES– check this post for more info.

Have a great day everyone! I”m off to comfort my little one – she’s still small enough that just sitting with Mommy makes her feel better!

omg, I so need to visit you to learn all this awesome PS stuff. I can’t color in PS for the life of me…. of course I haven’t tried too much either. I still can’t get totally comfortable with the pen & tablet so I reserve PS for photo editing. (oh yeah, got LR too and really need to use that more often too, sigh).

This is an awesome card. LOVE it and that fringe!!!! dang….where do you live???? lol.

    hugs

A style is a photoshop tool that allows you to add a specific feature to a layer – you can use them in Photoshop elements as well. :) Hmm – maybe I should do a little tutorial?
