For my project, I created a set of 12 coordinated cards, 2 of each design.  My Mom will be changing schools this Fall – she’s really excited, but that means leaving behind some great friends.  So, she asked me to design something she could give to these special people.  Dogwood_SetThese cards were fun to make and came together rather quickly.  I started with Tiffany’s Dogwood Branch digital stamp in Photoshop.  I resized it to fit inside a 3” square and went to work from there.  I wanted to create a digital version of Pat Huntoon’s  Out of The Box technique (Technique Junkies newsletter, Oct 2004), so I “drew” a frame around the image at 2.25” from center.  I created the background color and highlighted the Dogwood Branch using styles by Jodiann – in this case both of her Chalkies sets. Then I added a bit of script handwriting using a brush from Obsidian Dawn (love her stuff too)!!Dogwood I was able to put 6 on a page, so I printed 2 pages on my HP and them trimmed them with my large squares nestabilities.  I added the photo-corners (purchased years ago) for a bit of color – it was by pure luck that they matched perfectly!  The card bases were really easy too!  I selected 6 different Cuttlebug folders (D’Vine Swirls, Swiss Dots, Textile, Stylized Flowers, Birds and Swirls, and Floral Fantasy) and embossed 2 cards per design.  I added 1/2” sheer white organdy ribbon threaded through a ribbon slide (SU Hodgepodge hardware from ages ago) to the embossed bases and layered my image panel over the ribbon.  I purposefully did not include a sentiment so that my Mom could personalize each card herself. Dogwood_Textile

There you have it – all in all, this set was really simple to assemble and my Mom was really happy with the results.  I’d love to know what you think – and if you leave me a comment you will be entered to win the Dogwood Branch stamp I used plus Jodiann has graciously offered a coupon that will allow one lucky person to have their VERY own copies of her Chalkies Photoshop styles. Yea!  You have until Midnight EST June 2 to leave a comment for your chance to win!

Have a great day! Your next stop is Sunghee’s blog! Happy hopping and good luck.

How Have You Bean05.27.10

When browsing through my Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff collection, I saw the sentiment How Have You Bean in Lindsay’s Coffee Talk set – and I knew I HAD to use that sentiment…fortunately Lindsay provided plenty of choices and I quickly selected the dotted cup and saucer to pair with the sentiment. This card is for my friend and Designer Jodiann – one of her many nicknames is Bean…so there you have it – the inspiration for my card! CoffeeTalk_Card This card is designed 100% in Photoshop – not that you are in any way surprised by this!  I started with a 4.25 x 5.5 canvas since I wanted to be able to attach my printed work onto a standard A2 card base.  I opened the Cup/Saucer and Sentiments and added them to my canvas, resizing as needed.  After using Jodiann’s Chalkies: Bold Summer Styles to color the cup, saucer, and steam, I decided to plan the rest of my card as well.  I drew a rectangle behind the cup/saucer; playing with the dimensions until I achieved some sense of balance.  The digital paper is from my friend Di’s (Legacy 4 Life) Silent Love kit – I wanted something that would enhance the colors of the cup/saucer and look a bit like wallpaper – so this striped paper was perfect!  The background was easy to create using Jodiann’s Chalkies: Vicki’s Beach Styles paired with a texture from Akvis ArtSuite.  To prepare for printing, I opened an 8.5×11 canvas and drug the various elements from my 4.25×5.5 canvas onto it.  I wanted to print the “base”, the cup, the saucer, and the mat separately.  Once printed I trimmed everything and began assembly.  Before attaching my cup/saucer and mat to the base, I added a strip of narrow sheer blue organdy ribbon (my stash) embellished with tiny white adhesive pearls (Michaels).  The cup and saucer are attached with foam tape for added height and dimension.  I coated the green dots with my Gelly Roll Clear Glaze pen, the cup with my Glitter Spica marker, the handle with Taffy Smooch, and the steam with Glossy Accents. CoffeeTalk_CupThat’s all from me – Nadya and I are off to her last gymnastics lesson of the term.  If you haven’t already visited Lindsay’s blog – make sure to stop by.  There’s a freebie to be had as well as the links to all of the fabulous DT projects!  Have a great Thursday!

Before I forget, be sure to check back June 1 for some exciting news!!!! And as a reminder, DSO will be undergoing a facelift starting June 1, so our gallery and forum will be unavailable.  Challenges will still be hosted at the Challenge Blog and the store will remain open as well.
