Spider Milk10.28.10

How’s that for a catchy title? For today’s Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff project, I opted to go 3D!  I created this cute Halloween treat container using Lindsay’s Milk Carton template set – I used Sure Cuts A Lot and the SVG file, but Lindsay has included a printable template as well for those that prefer that option. LSS_Spider_Carton_wm I left one end of the carton unglued so that I could easily fill it with treats. The cute spider is from my Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge embellished with silver Smooch and black Stickles. I added a double ribbon layer and viola – a super cute and easy gift container!

A Bit of Creative Time10.24.10

Yea! I have a fun and fairly easy project to show you!  Nadya’s preschool class learned about Community Helpers. They covered lots of topics, had special visitors and even built their own communities (LOTS of Cricut time for me using Everyday Paper Dolls and My Community carts) – the kids LOVED them.  So, to wrap up the period, we decided to participate in a card drive for deployed Marines that I discovered on Rachel’s blog – Back Porch Creations as we felt our Service Men and Women are very important, but not often visible, members of our communities. I started by creating a sample card, and then simplified my design a bit to allow the kids to color and to minimize the ink consumption. LW_Flag_wmWhen brainstorming this idea, I knew I wanted to use Laurie Wilson’s Let Freedom Ring digital stamp set from Clear Dollar Stamps paired with a frame from the Stand and Salute Cricut cartridge. Using Photoshop and a fabulous Vintage Paper style from Kim B, I created the background script and layered the Flag over it.  The Thank You sentiment was also generated in PS.  I flattened the image and then created my printable template by dragging my image onto a new 8.5×11 document.  I printed 2 cards per page. My flag is colored with Sakura Glitter Pens.  Then I went to work in Design Studio.  I selected the God Bless America and My Hero Frames from Stand and Salute – sizing them to 5.25×4.  I cut 4 per 8.5×11 sheet alternating between Red and Navy Blue in both sentiments.  On my card, I added a scalloped border inside the frame and then attached everything with pop dots.  For the kids, we decided simpler would be best, so I eliminated the vintage paper background and the scallop inset as the kids would be coloring and assembling themselves.  Each child (with the help of a teacher) dictated a simple message for the inside of the card and we added their first name and age. I am very proud of our kids and the effort they put forth.  I hope the Marines that receive the cards will be equally happy.

Tiffany Doodles Birds and Windows07.07.10

It’s the 7th – which means another Tiffany Doodles challenge!  All you have to do to play along (and be eligible for a chance to win up to 7 digital stamps from Tiffany Doodles) is create a project featuring birds and/or windows. Here’s my little bit of inspiration:TD_BirdWindow_WM

I used Tiffany’s Window and Birdies digital stamps along with a fabulous cutting file from Penny Duncan to create my card.  I colored the birds and the window in Photoshop using my favorite Chalkies styles from Jodiann Cates and a Glass style from Bannerwoman (retired). I printed everything on photo paper (as I wanted to maintain the “glass” look of the window panes).

I printed the window ledge 3 times so I could layer them to create the window box for my flowers.  The flowers were really easy to create – I used Flowersoft Spring Mix and PVA glue applied with the handle of an old paintbrush.  After my flowers were dry, I used popdots to attach the birdies.  My mats were also easy to create thanks to Penny Duncan’s fabulous nested shape cutting files – I imported the layers into my Sure Cuts A Lot software, selected the sizes I wanted, and cut with my Cricut.  I used 4 sizes in all – though the top mat is actually 3 die cuts adhered together.  For the top layer, I brayered Brilliance Sky Blue ink over the entire surface and then stamped my Soft Swirls BG (SU- retired) in Whisper White Craft Ink (SU) while the Brilliance was still moist to create an embossed look.  The 2nd mat is dry embossed using the Birds and Swirls Cuttlebug folder and my Big Shot and then colored with my clear Spica marker to add some shimmer. The 3rd mat is a fabulous patterned CS from DCWV Nana’s Nursery set.  The last mat is cut from glittered DCWV CS – the Holiday stack. The card mat is a fabulous shimmered CS, also from DCWV – this time the Luxury stack.  My card base is white Georgia Pacific CS.  I added the pearls (Michaels) in graduated sizes after using mono adhesive and pop dots to attach all of my layers.

Whew – now that you have all of the details, be sure to visit the Tiffany Doodles blog for all of the details and links to all of the fabulous DT projects.  When you’ve finished your project, link back to the Tiffany Doodles blog so we can all admire your art!

Have a fabulous day!
